Environmental Assessment of Irrigation Projects
Was completed rapid and comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for major irrigation and water resource projects at NEERI.
Conducted Jigaon Dam Project (Maharashtra) and Attappady Valley Irrigation Project (Kerala), In this projects Identified submergence, command, and catchment zones using remote sensing and GIS. Evaluated soil and subsurface properties along canal alignments. Developed a DRASTIC model and generated land use, soil capability, and irrigability maps. Formulated a Catchment Area Treatment Plan to reduce siltation risks. Assessed groundwater quality in both shallow and deep aquifers through detailed physico-chemical and heavy metal analysis. Evaluated the integration of canal and groundwater irrigation to prevent waterlogging and salinity.

Groundwater Assessment & Contamination Modeling – Pithampur Industrial Area, Indore (CSIR–IGBP Project)
In association with NGRI, Hyderabad, a comprehensive study was conducted to explore, assess, and manage groundwater resources in the hard rock terrains around Pithampur SEZ I, II & III, Indore. The project involved seasonal water quality monitoring, aquifer investigations using VES and GPR, TSDF site selection, groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling (Visual MODFLOW), and heavy metal mapping using Surfer and RockWorks. Land use and expansion feasibility were analyzed through remote sensing, and pumping tests were conducted across the Chambal and Gambhir watersheds to evaluate aquifer performance.

Fluoride Surveillance for Rural Water Supply – Yavatmal District, Maharashtra (CSIR–NEERI)
As part of a large-scale rural drinking water quality initiative, a comprehensive assessment of 9,389 groundwater sources across 1,840 villages in 16 talukas of Yavatmal District (spanning 13,582 sq. km) was conducted to evaluate fluoride contamination. The project involved sampling and analysis of groundwater to identify concentrations exceeding WHO & BIS standards for drinking water. Contamination patterns were mapped, & potential source zones were delineated to support targeted mitigation, source replacement, & planning of safe rural water supply schemes under the State Drinking Water Program.

Urban Water Quality & Sanitation Studies – AUWSP & TSC (CSIR–NEERI)
Carried out drinking water surveillance for 36 Indian cities under AUWSP, involving assessment of raw, treated, and consumer-end water for bacteriological, physico-chemical, and heavy metal parameters. Recommended safe dosing and contamination risk reduction strategies. Also contributed to on-site sanitation studies in 11 cities under the Total Sanitation Campaign, analyzing wastewater and sewage for BOD, COD, DO, and microbial contamination to evaluate urban sanitation status.
